How far does Oxford County Probate Judge Dana Hanely’s power stretch?

Posted by kayinmaine on November 1, 2008

Your post music…

Remember the post I did about current republican Oxford County Probate Judge Dana Hanley and how the documents he’s filled out over time show him not living in Oxford County, but rather, it appears he actually lives in Cumberland County in the town of Windham? Well, the drama is gettin’ good. Maybe he is skirting around the law…

SIDEBAR NOTE: I’m still getting my ass kicked by the locals in the newspaper. Apparently I’ve riled the neck droolers! They’re frothing mad too. Good. LOL

Anyways…

I got a visit by a little birdie. She calls herself Janet J. (she’s known around town) and I had actually seen her at some of the Democratic events in my area, but had never actually met her formally until the night I was passing out ‘LACKEY’ stickers at the local high school during the “Meet The Candidate” session after Joe Robinson, who is the republican running against the Democratic Clean Election candidate Terry Hayes (she is the incumbent and represents House District #94) called me a ‘lackey’ in his Letter to the Editor response after I pointed out to the locals that Joe’s family, who live outside the District, set up a PAC to give him money (you know, a PAC where the money limits are ‘endless’ and anyone in the country can give to your campaign!). That was the first time I had actually met Ms. Janet J.

Fast forward to Thursday night…

I get a call from Janet out of the blue asking me if I’m the person who does the blogging. I said, “Yep!”. She sounds kind of exhausted and then tells me she’s been trying to get a letter published in the same paper I’ve written letters to (her letters have appeared in the same weeks as mine), but she’s not having luck. She says the letter is about Dana Hanley and how she’s questioning his residential status. My eyes lit up! My voice raised! The neighborhood dogs started barking!

I said to her, “Is the paper not printing your letter? How come?”. Janet describes the dynamics for me (I’m a newbie to the area and have no clue about any of this). She says the Lewiston Sun Journal actually owns our local paper in addition to a few other small newspapers. All of the papers that received Janet’s letter did not and will not publish it. Only one paper did and it’s up in Bridgton, you know, an area where the people don’t give a shit what the hell Dana Hanley is doing or not!

Here’s her letter she brought by my house after we chatted. She wanted me to put it on my blog to get some attention to this matter:

To the Editor,

On October 3, I read with great interest the article regarding the Androscoggin County Commissioner who no longer lives in the town she was elected to represent. The Governor was asking the Attorney General’s Office to look into the legality of this Commissioner retaining her seat on the County Board. This got me thinking of our Oxford County Judge of Probate, Dana Hanley, who is currently seeking re-election. Does the residency law apply to him? I think it does. Might it be a journalistic responsibility of this newspaper in service to its community to look into this matter? Mr. Hanley declares Paris as his residence so as to vote in this community. When questioned in the past by the Town Clerk, he maintained that he an apartment in his Maine Street office building. Since I know of another local attorney who lives in the same building in which he maintains his law office, I decided to look at the property cards on file at the assessor’s office. The cards showed the local attorney’s property is divided into residential and office space. Attorney Hanley’s wife (and law partner) Linda Cohen, lives in Windham where she is a registered voter. Are we being asked to believe that Judge Hanley really LIVES in Paris while his wife lives in Windham? Is he maintaining this facade so he as to retain his elected position? In this case, YOU be the judge! I think I’d be hard pressed to find Dana Hanley “residing” at his office on ANY night of the week. And really, do we want to re-elect yet another person who will say and do whatever it takes to retain their seat?

Sincerely,

Janet J.

Soooooo…..how far does Oxford County Probate Judge Dana Hanley’s power stretch? You’d think being a judge, he wouldn’t be trying to suppress the voice of the people in the area he lives in. Oh wait. We don’t actually know where the hell he’s living in our area, except for his own lawyer’s office he’s listed as his residence, but I can guarantee ya, HE AIN’T THERE TO PASS OUT CANDY TO THE LITTLE TRICK OR TREATERS! I bet he did that that in Cumberland County at his wife’s house in Windham instead, right Dana?

Okay, let’s get back to the power thingy….if you had a secret that was so awesome and you knew if you won your re-election this year, you might not want it to get out, and you being a bonafide judge/lawyer, you wouldn’t want the people of your area to know the guy who presided over your case was not all that ethical!

Nope, you would WANT SOME KIND OF POWER to keep this secret or deceit from getting out there. Would someone give this man a Hail Mary please!

Tah dah! Here’s what I think happened (think Sen. Susan Collins here, because she also has friends in these kinds of places):

AS SOON AS THE LOCAL PAPERS RECEIVED JANET’S LETTER (she doesn’t have a computer, so she types them and either mails them in or brings it to the paper directly) THEY CONTACTED THE JUDGE. And they didn’t contact him to verify what Janet was stating in her letter. Nope! THEY CALLED THE JUDGE TO LET THEM KNOW THE PITCHFORK-HOLDING CITIZENS WERE ONTO HIS LITTLE SECRET! Yep, and this is why ole Dana started making some phone calls to others claiming…defamation! libel! traitors! (just kidding about the ‘traitor’ part, though, he is a republican, so therefore, anyone who points out your misgivings or law breaking or unethical behavior you get this title along with ‘unpatriotic! un-American! America-hater!’. See?).

Ummm, Dana? All we want to know is where the hell you live. If you live in Windham and have a P.O. Box only in a town in Oxford County to give the appearance you live in South Paris and you don’t really live here and are just living a charade to keep your paychecks coming, then we as your constituents NEED TO KNOW THIS. If we are mistaken and you actually do own a budding farm with animals and have the most beautiful mailbox in all of Oxford County, then we will let off. Until then, don’t be surprised if I put a big sign in front of my house asking this question about your residency, okay? I have a right to know. Janet has a right to know. And so do the good people in our area. See?

Some of us here in town thinks it’s very unethical when a judge in town is skirting around the law to benefit himself and then has the local newspapers not print a constituents letter asking him where he really lives. So shame on our local newspapers for not printing Janet’s letter! Suppressing a voter’s questions about the residential legality of local judge who is paid with taxpayer money is VERY UNETHICAL also. Asking questions about members of our local governments is not.

Of course, it’s too late now to print Janet’s letter because Dana Hanley’s re-election bid is taking place next Tuesday, but this is typical of the right wingers all over this country. They’d rather run out the clock and delay, rather than letting the people make their own choices based on ALL information. That said, I hope Attorney Paul Dumas, who is the Democrat running to kick Dana Haley out of his job, does do that. I voted for him on my absentee ballot and I’m hoping others did too along with voters on election day. 😉

John McCain is going to win on Tuesday because of the Bradley Effect?

Posted by kayinmaine on November 1, 2008

This is just a bunch of bullshit. If the Bradley Effect was really in play, then in my very white state of Maine on Caucus Day in February of this year, Hillary Clinton would have won over Barack Obama! But that didn’t happen. Nope. Forty five thousand mainly white Democrats came out to vote for Barack and he won it almost 60-40% over Hillary. As of right now, the early votes being cast here in Maine are favoring heavily for Democrats….yes….for Barack!

As a nation, we have progressed and we feel very good about it too. Of course, there are racists in our country for sure, but a good portion of America is not terrified of blacks (or mulattos as Barack is!) as some are. As pointed out by Tim Russert’s son, Luke, this past summer, the youth of America…especially…is color blind. They go to diverse schools in this country and whites, blacks, Latinos, etc. commingle with each other and have no problem casting their vote for Barack Obama! Here’s Luke talking about it…

Thank you Luke! You are so right. A good portion of the youth in our country, as well as, a mature America today (those over 35 years of age)….the Bradley Effect is not in play this year no matter how many times Joe Scarborough or the other wingers say it is!

All the old ladies I spoke to over the summer phone-banking for the Democrats were enthusiastic for Barack Obama! Don’t let the right wing pundits fool ya!

Honestly, I think this year the “McCain Effect” is in play, meaning, when polled, the republicans of this country will say ‘John McCain’, because they don’t want to appear disloyal to McCain or their party, but when it’s time to pull the curtain behind him or her to cast their vote, they will be voting for Barack Obama. I’m serious. This is the feeling I’m getting. The last time I did some phone-banking with my local Democrats, I noticed a couple of the ‘unaffiliated’ voters I talked to had a hard time spitting out John McCain’s name. These kinds of voters honestly will be voting for Barack Obama and the right wingers of America know it! Republicans are loyal to their party first, so saying out loud they’ll be voting for the mulatto Democrat this year, is tough for them! Oh, but they will be on election day.

A McCain/Palin win (or steal) on election day will be considered an act of war by the planet. We can’t afford this to happen and if we have to wait in line for 10 hours to cast our vote (bring a lunch please! lots of water too! LOL) for Barack Obama on election day or in early voting, then we will! Go America go!

After 8 years of George Bush & Dick Cheney being in the White House, there is no amount of Sarah Palins to bring a republican landslide this year, no matter how hard the republicans cry there is a chance this will happen! Americans are smart. Even republicans from the past 8 years are frightened at the idea of a McCain/Palin win.

Sen. Susan Collins is not Margaret Chase Smith despite Collins’ delusion over her own voting record

Posted by kayinmaine on October 31, 2008

(picture of MCS)

The late great republican Us Senator Margaret Chase Smith of Maine once said of the republican party back in the 1950’s:

“Smears are not only to be expected but fought. Honor is to be earned, not bought.”

and…

“I don’t want to see the Republican Party ride to political victory on the Four Horsemen of Calumny – Fear, Ignorance, Bigotry, and Smear”

(CLICK HERE TO WATCH FUTURE SENATOR TOM ALLEN NEWEST AD AGAINST SUSAN COLLINS’ LATEST SMEAR ABOUT HIS ATTENDANCE RECORD)

Well, little did Margaret Chase Smith (MCS) now when she said these two sentences…that almost a half century later a Maine republican like Senator Susan Collins would come along! What a huge disappointment Susan Collins would be today if Margaret was around. I call Margaret the ‘late GREAT Senator’ for a reason, because this was a woman (first woman to serve in both houses of Congress) who had earned & gained the trust of my grandmother, you know, my grandmother, who on her death bed at the age of 93 two months after 9/11/01, hated the republicans so much that she was spitting and sputtering before he last breath was taken. Grammy liked MCS and she liked Olympia Snowe. Susan Collins? This woman made my grandmother yell on more than one occasion when she heard Susan talking on the television, “Turn it off! I can’t stand listening to her!”.

As stated in Tom Allen’s ad above, he has had over 7,500 votes and missed 157 of them to attend personal matters. He also noted that the other votes he missed DIDN’T NEED HIS VOTE TO PASS OR NOT PASS. On the other hand, during the same time period (they both have been in DC for 12 years now), Collins has only had to make 3,782 votes. Yep, she’s had half as many votes as he has! Oh, but Collins would rather smear Allen over this, because to her, POWER (and winning!) IS THE ONLY REASON WHY SHE’S RUNNING FOR A THIRD TERM, which is the response she gave when she was asked why she’s running again, when she made it clear HERE, that she would only run for two terms.

Not only would MCS be rolling in her grave right now at the behavior of Susan Collins over the past 8 years and during the her last three elections, but if my grandmother was alive today, she would be out of her mind with disgust!

The only thing Sen. Susan Collins cares about is her perfect attendance record in DC. She likes to think of herself as Margaret Chase Smith for this reason alone. Yep, just a perfect voting attendance record just like MCS. Of course, Collins is elaborating on this record because Senator Susan Collins doesn’t want you to focus on is WHAT SHE IS ACTUALLY VOTING ON WHEN SHE SHOWS UP. See? Susan doesn’t want you to know that she’s voted 55% to 88% of the time in favor of George Bush’s economic and foreign policies.

MARGARET CHASE SMITH WOULD HAVE BUCKED GEORGE BUSH AND HER PARTY OVER THE PAST 8 YEARS HAD SHE BEEN IN COLLINS’ PLACE. Collins did not.

Mainers pretty much despise George Bush and if the media had done it’s job up here during the election cycle, they would known how much of a jackboot licker Collins was to him!

As of right now, the only big boo boo she made in her delusional life was the one ABOUT CUBA. Huh? That’s it? MCS would be livid with you! Does Susan know that John McCain and his wife are in the process of getting a beer contract with the Cuban government? Again, MCS would be bullshit at you for your stupidity & jackboot licking! Susan Collins’ voting record has been her biggest mistake, and just like George Bush, she think of one to point out that was significant, and instead, said something from left field!

Sooooo….

Anything George Bush has wanted over the years, she’s given it to him….and yes….some of these bills that she voted on and passed were also bills that Democrats also voted in favor of. This is why Susan Collins also wants you to think being bipartisan is a good thing. Well, sometimes being bipartisan can be dangerous and destructive to our country (authorizing illegal occupations, the non-Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, the Bankruptcy Bill, deregulating the banking industry, giving more power to George Bush than any other president in our history).

A NOTE TO SUSAN COLLINS FROM TOM ALLEN: “You can be bipartisan and still be wrong.”

Exactly Tom!

Senator Susan Collins shows up to vote all the time, because she can. She’s not a mother, she’s not a wife, she doesn’t have a live-in girlfriend as far as I can tell, but she certainly has plenty of time to party down in DC whenever she wants to after she’s voted! Spit. Margaret Chase Smith may have shown up to vote every time, but she wasn’t there to screw over the nation by bankrupting it, by giving the president unchecked powers, all the while, lying & deceiving Mainers along the way! No way in hell would she be a Susan Collins ever in her lifetime!

Margaret Chase Smith saw this coming a long time ago. She knew republicans had lost their minds.

John McCain funded a PLO right wing think tank?

Posted by kayinmaine on October 31, 2008

Ooopsie dooooo. It appears John McCain is MORE connected to Bill Ayers and Rashid Khalidi (a PLO sympathizer) than Barack Obama is. Seems Johnny gave Mr. Khalidi close to $500,000 in the last ten years when Johnny was in charge of the International Republican Institute. Keith Olbermann explains (hat tip to Rutherford Lawson for posting this video on her blog):

Sarah Palin booed when she congratulated the Phillies for winning the World Series

Posted by kayinmaine on October 30, 2008

I love it. Apparently the people of Erie, PA despise the Phillies. Had Sarah Palin done her homework like an exceptional executive leader would have or had surrounded herself with people who could look past her looks, she would have known this prior to opening her lipstick coated mouth. Huh. I guess she has surrounded herself with a bunch of Joe the Plumbers who worship her for her boobs and not for anything else. Yep, they just follow her around like a bunch of robots. I guess she’s getting what she paid for! And I’m not talking about her clothes either! I’m talking about the blind leading the blind. She’s blind, they’re blind, and her little mini-run-for-the-presidency is summing up to be the most hysterical (and racist!) uneducated one in history!

Now the right wingers are going after Barack’s letter to Paulson/Bernanke & the money he’s spent on his campaign!

Posted by kayinmaine on October 30, 2008

I’m sorry, but this is laugh out loud funny. The right wingers (as their party dies as we approach the finish line) are now going after Barack Obama’s letter he wrote to Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke. Apparently, the right wingers are blaming Barack for not doing enough. Some of the wingers, like this one, is asking why Barack Obama didn’t take action in the Senate but instead wrote a letter. Oh please.

First off, ummmmmm, who is the president of the United States and who was when Barack wrote the letter? Whose economy was it back then? Oh that’s right! George Bush’s. How come George Bush didn’t write a letter? Maybe because he didn’t give a shit? Bingo!

Second of all, is the process in passing legislation fast or slow? And what has been the reaction of republicans over the past two years when the Democrats want to pass anything? They either stall it or block it. And who has the final word on the bills to enact into law? George Bush, the president. Would Bush have signed any kind of regulation into law that would have strong-armed Wall Street, the players, and the Federal Reserve? Nope! No way!

Barack Obama wrote an exceptional letter. Did Henry Paulson & Ben Bernanke take his words to heart and then made immediate changes? Nope!

So, really, who is to blame here? As usual, it’s the republicans! Oh yes it is! George Bush, Dick Cheney, and anyone connected to them is a crook, criminal, and a traitor!

And to top it all off, the wingers are now going after Barack’s campaign being the most expensive ever. Well, that may be. As of today, Barack’s run for the presidency has been the most expensive in our history, but who had the title before him? Oh that’s right! George W. Bush! My, my, my, how quickly the wingers forget, but then again, when you’re on the losing side this is the kind of thing you want to forget and not make public. It’s the ole white noise of insanity & hypocrisy we’ve all come to enjoy in the republics!
